At times in the vineyard stalked a shadow of the most singular appearance and movements, such that the branches could by no means locate his origin. When he settled around a branch, the poor victim could scarcely detect his own capture, although sometimes others looking on discerned it.
The Husbandman could always find him immediately. Whenever those two met, there rose sparks and ominous roarings, but the shadow always fled. He became known in the vineyard as the Enemy that Sneaks.
It may have been because of her new regularity in seaking TO THE VINE, or perhaps because the light was brighter than ever before for Tovina. For some reason this Enemy that Sneaks settled about Tovina, and she knew it not.
