At these words from the Vine, and because the Husbandman pointed, Tovina turned to look at the Vine. There, at the place of her connection, she saw the scars of a cross. Then followed this story from the tongue of the Husbandman:
"It was a wee bud upon a wild grape vine, the vine that used to be mine but now is wild. I watched that wee bud with care.
"At just the right time for the bud, I allowed the knife to cut open my choice Vine. It was a cross, and the sap ran out upon it.
"From the wild vine, I cut loose that wee bud and folded it in that cross. Then I bound up the wounds, my choice Vine and the wee bud together.
"The wee bud grew to a tiny twig, and one day I christened it Tovina.
"Yes, Tovina, you are mine, and for these Reasons: The vine of your first appearance was really mine, though turned away. I went and plucked you back. My Vine was cut open to receive you, and its sap flowed out for you. But all of that will be wasted if you will not seek TO THE VINE. When you have given up on the grapes, Then only can you truly turn TO THE VINE.
"Now, Tovina, take up your cross and learn of me, for the cross has more lessons to teach."
