The Stream, in passing through the vineyard, brought news from the field of golden grain. Tovina, having never seen the golden grain, asked what it looked like and then how those kernels came to be golden. "Were they always so? Why are they not purple?"
"Oh, no," said the Stream, "they started out all green and very small. It is the inside things which count And make you what you are. The sap in the stalk flowing to its kernels is a fine, rich thing. It makes the kernels fat and golden. It is the inside things which count."
"Of course," thought Tovina, "that is why I lack in the pleasant grapes of kindness, wisdom, and tact. I will look to the inside things."
