“Remember my book of promises, Tovina. They are laid up for you because I open my hand, not only for the pruning, but to satisfy the desire of every living thing. I know much better than do you your inner desires and what will make you happiest. But I want you to tell me about them. I will not laugh at even the little desires, nor condemn those that are not best. I long to have you talk with me, so I can teach you and give you better things. Also, then, I can strengthen our connection TO THE VINE.”

“Will you not call me full of darkness, or of ugly passion for change?”

“That,” answered the rain again, “will be true only apart from the Vine, but if connected TO THE VINE, your wants are part of the life of the Vine to make you grow, remember?”

“Listen carefully, Tovina,” spoke the Husbandman now with a hand caressing her dripping leaves. “There is a certain darkness which comes with the control of the Enemy. You must always fight that darkness by seeking again your connection TO THE VINE. There is another darkness which comes from looking at grapes or storms, pruning or other branches. But there is light again in seeking TO THE VINE.
          Only by reaching toward the light
          by connection TO THE VINE,
          can you fight any darkness.”
