Warm Up: 1. What did you learn that you can share about the city or church of Smyrna (Izmir)?
2. First Sign of Trouble: Revelation 2:9. Compare Revelation 3:9 to gain a clearer picture of “blasphemy” and “synagogue of Satan.” 3. Two Imperatives: Revelation 2:10. List the two commands or imperatives found in this verse for effectively dealing with the trouble mentioned earlier. 4. “Smyrna” means “myrrh.” Read Matthew 2:11; Mark 15:23, and John 19:39. Reflect on the three times Jesus was given myrrh while on earth. What might “myrrh” have to do with the letter to Smyrna or to others?
5. What images come into your mind as you think about the Crown of Life?
1. Read Revelation 2:12-17 several times. Research Pergamos (Pergamum) online. 2. Read all you can about "Assertiveness" or a "Jerk" under "Difficult Communication" at www.listenary.com . At the list of articles, read from the bottom up, first posted to latest. |
