Warm Up:

1. What did you learn that you can share about the city or church of Smyrna (Izmir)?

Work Up:

2. First Sign of Trouble: Revelation 2:9. Compare Revelation 3:9 to gain a clearer picture of “blasphemy” and “synagogue of Satan.”

3. Two Imperatives: Revelation 2:10. List the two commands or imperatives found in this verse for effectively dealing with the trouble mentioned earlier.

4. “Smyrna” means “myrrh.” Read Matthew 2:11; Mark 15:23, and John 19:39. Reflect on the three times Jesus was given myrrh while on earth. What might “myrrh” have to do with the letter to Smyrna or to others?

Wrap Up:

5. What images come into your mind as you think about the Crown of Life?

Homework:

1. Read Revelation 2:12-17 several times. Research Pergamos (Pergamum) online.

2. Read all you can about "Assertiveness" or a "Jerk" under "Difficult Communication" at www.listenary.com . At the list of articles, read from the bottom up, first posted to latest.
