1 Chronicles 14: Inquiring of the Lord

The Bible record states that soon after David was established as king, the Philistine enemies came to fight him.

And David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hand?"

And the Lord said unto him, "Go up. I will deliver them into your hand" (1 Chronicles 14:10).

Ah, I certainly would like that kind of direct word from God. Well, David went out and won the battle. But the enemies came back again.

Therefore David inquired again of God. And God said to him, "Don't go up after them, but go away from them and come upon them over near the mulberry trees" (1 Chronicles 14:14).

There are so many things not really clear. This house or that house? This job or that? Will this job fit my skills and personality? Will this friendship be good for me? Which car will turn out to be a lemon? Where should I invest? Looks like God even helped David with battle plans.

Next God told David, It will happen that when you hear the "sound of going" in the top of the mulberry trees, that is the time to go out to battle, because God has gone out ahead of you" (1 Chronicles 14:15).

I want to be listening to hear the sound of God at work, the sound of going, the sound of God going. I think if I am reading in God's word each day with a quiet soul so as to listen, I might hear the sound of God at work. Then I can wisely and effectively go out to work with God.
