They said Moses saw my Jesus,
And when pain and tears o’erwhelmed me,
Then my Jesus whispered to me,
From the days of my childhood I had goals, vision, and a sense of mission. My deepest longing was to see Jesus.
Then a long time ago, I joined what turned out to be something like a cult. Willingly I gave over my money, clothing, time, and energy for the organization’s goals. Then they broke down my sense of personal mission and individual vision, telling me that it was wrong to want anything other than what that institution needed of me. By the time they had accomplished that breakdown, they had also separated me from my friends, my family, and my health. God became my only friend. God filled my vision; there were no others. During that time I wrote this poem.
That experience causes me to invite us all to become familiar with our organizations and governments and to do whatever it takes ensure safety and support for individual goals, vision, and sense of mission. If you don’t yet have a clear sense of personal mission and vision—do pray for it.
They said Moses saw my Jesus. They said seeing God could change me. Oh, yes! |
