The wise man had quite a bit to say about the poor and the rich. About those who have resources also cultivating the spirit of bounty or generosity toward those who don't have.
A spirit of generosity is good and to be cultivated.
However, if I am required to pay taxes, and I do it grudgingly, in order to give to the poor, this does not build my spirit of generosity. A life of bounty and generosity cannot be legislated.
Yet, it is because we have not all always lived out the generosity designed for us that we have had to create beauracracies who will tax us and do the giving for us.
They don't even give it in our name! Really now! |
