I once read a story about a man urged by his friend to read the Bible. This friend knew the Bible very well and wanted to share that knowledge. Finally the first man began reading the Bible, and before long he exclaimed, "This is not a book to know. This is a book that knows me!" The sense that finally someone or something understood him brought him to the worship of God.

Hebrews 4:12-16 highlights the power of the word of God.

The fact that God knows me and there is nothing I can hide from him, is not frightening to me because it is also a fact that God understands me with kindness.

These two facts, that God knows me, and that God understands me with kindness, invite me to come each moment boldly, as an open book, into God's presence.
