According to Genesis 7-8, the water bursts its boundaries.
Whether or not you believe in a worldwide catastrophic flood, I think you will agree that the Bible pictures water everywhere. It reminds me of the Bible's picture of earth before God's creation, back in Genesis 1:2.
When all this boundary violation was over, what happened? The Bible says the rain was restrained and the waters returned to their place (Genesis 8:2-3). Dry ground appeared again (Genesis 8:13).
And God said, "So long as the earth exists, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease" (Genesis 8:22).
Seems to me God states here a divine commitment to preserving and protecting the boundaries that allow humans to have expectations, to bear fruit, and to be productive. |
